The Wellmeadow 3D printer

The Wellmeadow 3D printer

Ever fancied ‘printing’ something in 3D just to see how it works? Or maybe you have a need for a handy little gizmo that you have thought of which you design exactly to fit your requirements. Wellmeadow owns a 3D Printer, and has now listed it on the 3D Hubs website to offer its printing capacity to the public. If you are in the Shropshire area, you can even come and watch it being printed in our reception. You can visit our Hub page at https://www.3dhubs.com/stoke-trent/hubs/wellmeadow (Don’t ask my why they call us the ‘Stoke-on-Trent’ area!). You can upload printing files there and it checks it will print okay as well as giving you a price based on how big it is. Once you have submitted it, it gets sent over to us and we load it up on the printer. When it’s finished you can come and collect it, or we can post it to you.

If you haven’t got the design skills but would still like to print something – then have a look around on sites like www.thingiverse.com and you will find thousands of objects you can download to print. If you want to have a go at designing something yourself, it is very quick to learn using something like Sketchup. If you have a teenager in the house, they have probably used this at school.

As a guide to printing prices, we are offering this service at about 20% of the cost of the commercial printers – just because we are trying to get people to think about 3D Printing and its potential application in their business and personal lives. If you wanted to print something the size of your hand it would cost less than £5. An iphone case would be less than £2. If we get busy we’ll be putting these prices up – but for now we are trying not to make the price a barrier to getting started.

So what are you waiting for? Get designing and send us something over to print!
