Background

Lots of companies send email newsletters or updates to their mailing lists, but getting these lists to grow is difficult.

There are third party email referral schemes out there but they come at a monthly cost.

We can help you to develop a HubSpot-driven solution which manages the process including awarding points and prizes to successful referrers.

There is no additional monthly cost and you can get your contacts to help you increase the size of your mailing list.

It's all GDPR compliant as referred contacts have to sign up themselves.

What does it do?

 This is how it works (see the graphic below):

  1. You send a personalised referral code to your contacts by email
  2. Contacts forward the code to their friends, tempted by the offer of prizes
  3. The friends click the link and are taken to a form
    1. The form submit creates (or updates) their contact record in your HubSpot, they are signed up to your newsletter
    2. The referrer is credited with 1 point.
    3. The two contacts are associated with the 'referrer/referee' association pair
    4. The referee gets an email to confirm sign up, with their own referral code
    5. The referrer gets an email thanking them and telling then their new points total
  4. When a referrer's points total gets to a trigger, they are sent another email telling them they have a prize

What do you need

Most of what you need is included in the normal HubSpot Pro functionality, but to run the API you will need a Microsoft 365 licence.

  • Custom Properties

  • Forms

  • Webhooks

  • Automated Emails

  • 3+ Workflows

  • Microsoft Power Automate (included in Office 365 E1, E3 & E5 licences)

If you don't want to use Microsoft Power Automate then we can build it around some free 3rd party apps for up to 50 referrals a month.

 

Only have Starter Licence?

Whilst the full functionality requires a Marketing Pro licence to give you workflows and automated emails, you do get up to 10 custom properties and webhooks at the starter level.

Therefore if you haven't used the 10 properties already, this may be possible. You will need at least two for this to work.

Of course without the workflows and automated emails it loses some of its appeal. However, yo will still get a points count for your contact that successfully refers their friends and you can manage this manually.

    Add us as Partner Admin to your HubSpot and we can do it for you.
